Men’s org up in arms vs. sex video scandals, macho culture
Here’s one for the books. A group of men banding as protectors of women’s rights have come out to issue an official statement condemning the upload, download and sale of sex videos.
Yes, men who were angered by the audacity of cosmetic surgeon Hayden Kho to film his sex trysts with various women partners. And angrier even with the popularity generated now by the sex scandal that has become income-generating for many enterprising Ilonggos.
Of particular reference here were the graphic sex acts of Kho which according to the all-male group smacked of “abuse and violation of the rights of his purported partners.”
Banding as Men Oppose to Violence against Women Everywhere, Inc. (MOVE) Aklan Chapter, condemned here as well was the filming, showing and proliferation of various sex videos.
“As evidenced, man is always at the center of violence against women and the spate of these video scandals involving Dr. Hayden Kho and his numerous partners smacks of abuse and violation of the rights of the his purported partners. We can only imagine the sexual, psychological and other forms of violence suffered by these women as these events continue to unfold,” the statement obtained by The News Today (TNT) went. “MOVE-Aklan strongly denounces these acts that stems from the very macho culture that pervades our society.”
The group also decried fellow men’s supposed perception of women and girls “as objects of fantasies and desires….”
It is unacceptable, they said how the women and girls are being treated as “objects for personal gratification which results in the proliferation of dehumanizing acts and victimization of women and girl children.”
“MOVE-Aklan believes that the filming, uploading and showing of sex videos perpetuated by men can be eliminated if the perpetrators themselves will say no and put an end to this form of violence. The absence of stronger laws to penalize the perpetrators and curb this form of sexual violence against women should also be enacted by Congress to end the production and proliferation of this kind of pornography to eliminate women's objectification. On the other hand, we also call upon all local government units to do its share in the prevention of all forms of violence against women and children, including the issuance of appropriate local policies or ordinances to protect its constituents from these kinds of abuse,” the statement continued.
“MOVE-Aklan strongly condemns these acts, we appeal to our fellow men not to patronize these videos as it directly violates the basic rights of women and girl children. We have mothers, wives, daughters, and girlfriends and any act of disrespect is tantamount to violating their very own rights.”
The first ever all-men group to denounce the sex videos, MOVE-Aklan was established in March 2007 with current president Franklin Quimpo.
Based in Region 6, MOVE-Aklan is in the forefront of the campaign to end violence against women and children. The group further aims to eliminate the gross violation of women’s rights “and it envisions reaching a greater number of men in the province of Aklan.”
With men believed to be perpetrators of these rights, MOVE – Aklan stressed the need for men to take up the cudgels in upholding women’s rights “as well as informing and educating other men of the increasing incidence in Aklan and how Aklanon men can help in reducing violence against women and children in the province.”
