BIR locks in on tax evaders
ROXAS CITY – The government is determined to run after tax evaders, the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) in Capiz said.
Information Officer Ma. Gracia Balgos of Revenue District Office 72 in Roxas City disclosed that they have been intensifying their efforts to ensure that the revenues due to government shall be remitted appropriately.
Balgos said that their rigorous tax campaign through tax mapping is a tool against tax evasion by taxpayers.
Through their tax mapping activity in June alone, they were able to collect P100,000 as penalty for violation of tax laws.
Balgos added that they are also presently focusing their tax campaign efforts on checking the cash register machines (CRMs) as well as on point of sales machines (POS), which are also used to under declare or manipulate the sales of business establishments.
In particular, Balgos said, that they are running after BIR unauthorized POS as well as CRMs.
She stressed that massive tax campaign is also undertaken, particularly on the issuance of official receipts by professionals, specifically doctors, lawyers, surveyors.
Balgos revealed that BIR Capiz has already recommended to their higher office the closure of three business establishments in Capiz under the agency’s “Oplan Kandado” due to tax evasion.
Meanwhile, revenue officials here are likewise appealing to the public to help in the government’s tax collection effort to stamp down tax evasion and other tax cheats.
Part of the country’s revenue collection, particularly in the implementation of the value added tax, is utilized for the various social welfare and protection programs.
Included in said initiative for the poor are the government’s Hunger Mitigation Program and the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program(4Ps), which is a flagship project of the Arroyo administration for poverty reduction through investment in human capital. (PIA/Jemin B. Guillermo)
