VMLP, city gov’t at odds over Cebu City financial aid
ROXAS CITY – Vice Mayor’s League of the Philippines (VMLP) - Capiz Chapter and the city government are now at odds over the P200,000 financial aid donated by the Cebu City government intended for Typhoon Frank victims here.
This developed after Mayor Vicente Bermejo discovered that the P200,000 check from the Cebu City government was intended for the typhpoon Frank victims and not the VMLP.
Bermejo said that the city government released the BDO Check No. 0080726 dated Dec. 22 because it believed that it was intended for VMLP since there was no voucher and detailing the intended purpose of the check.
“Our city treasurer’s office was misled to believed that the financial assistance was intended for your organization,” Bermejo stated in his letter to Dadivas dated July 6.
On his part, Dadivas said in a radio interview that he was not benefited by the said amount adding that he was only the carrier of the said check from Cebu City intended for their organization.
According to him, Bermejo has knowledge about the purpose of the said amount which is intended for the league.
Dadivas said Bermejo's revelation to the local media about the financial assistance is malicious. “It’s politically motivated,” Dadivas added.
Dadivas, who is the lone opposition at the city council, accused earlier that Bermejo administration realigned the calamity funds intended for typhoon Frank and instead pay for other obligations of the city.
However, Bermejo strongly denied Dadivas' accusation said that the funds was reverted to the 2009 annual budget.
Meanwhile, Dao Vice Mayor James “Mitang” Magbanua, president of the VMLP, Capiz chapter said in the same radio station that the league was the one which solicited aid from Cebu City intended for the typhoon Frank victims.
Magbanua also said that the amount is still intact and will eventually be released to the typhoon victims.
