Pontevedra town gears for M & E workshop
ROXAS CITY – A one-day Monitoring and Evaluation (M & E)/Compass Workshop for the municipal government of Pontevedra, Capiz on August 13 at Villa Consortia Resort in Pontevedra to give direction to the town’s project management.
The activity seeks to determine primarily how far the municipality has done to address the four burning issues which have been judiciously identified during the Local and Regional Development (LRED) participatory action planning last year.
LRED is a participatory development process involving public-private players in order to identify, prioritize and take action on obstacles to fulfilling economic potential of localities.
“The four relevant issues included revisiting of the 2002 Investment Code, flooding and other man-made disasters, poor tax collection and absence of institutionalized business association,” said Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) – Capiz Public Information Officer Ken Cuñada in a press release.
The workshop participants will include top municipal officials, department heads involved in the implementation of quick win projects and representatives from the business/industry sectors.
The day-long activity is being initiated by DTI with the support of the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) which will bring expert moderators to facilitate Compass workshop.
Compass is an effective M & E tool which aids project implementers to assess or measure actual accomplishments vis-à-vis target outputs. It is also used in aligning activities to critical success factors of quick win projects.
“It is expected that the learnings derived out of the whole process will serve as valuable guide to all stakeholders in improving their overall project performance,” Cuñada added.
Pontevedra town will be the second municipality to use the Compass and the LRED approaches as a strategy to hasten growth and development.
The municipality of Ivisan was the first to use Compass. (PIA/DTI/A.Lumaque)
