Nila Claravall-Gonzalez celebrates 25 years of teaching classical ballet in Iloilo City. A migrant to Iloilo by marriage, Nila C. Gonzalez started her first ballet class in Assumption Convent in June 1984 with the support of the Assumption Sisters and Sr. Mary Gertrude Borres, R.A. who was the Superior at that time.
Nila C. Gonzalez is a registered teacher of the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), London. Her school, Claravall-Gonzalez School of Classical Ballet, the leading school in classical ballet in Iloilo City and Panay is affiliated with the Royal Academy of Dancing by an international examination system. Students take their ballet examinations every year in different grade levels conducted by the academy.
A CELEBRATION OF DANCES, Dance Series One, is the 25th ANNIVERSARY OFFERING of the school. It will be presented on August 22, 2009, Saturday, 4 PM at Amigo Plaza Mall Event Center. Artistic director Nila C. Gonzalez, together with her teachers Karla White and Pauline Cordero have prepared a repertoire in different dance mediums – classical ballet, neo-classic, modern and jazz. Excerpts from Swan Lake, Spanish Fan Dance, Reflections, to name a few will be shown. Choreographers are Karla White, Pauline Cordero, Brezhnev Larlar and Dwight Rodrigazo.
