MassKara Streetdance
Bacolod City barangays are always supportive of the MassKara Festival that in this year’s celebration 23 barangays have participated in the street dancing competition. The street dance started at 3PM and lasted for almost six hours to complete the group presentations.
Declared Champion in barangay category is Brgy. Taculing, followed by First Runner-up Brgy. Mandalagan and Second Runner-up Brgy. Bata garnering cash prizes of P100,000, P75,000 and P50,000, respectively.
The participation of the barangays, undoubtedly, is a main factor that the annual festival has steadily developed and became popular as the city’s main tourist attraction. It is a manifestation of the people’s support and unity for the endeavors of their beloved Bacolod City, whether it is during the bad or good times.
It has to be noted that MassKara was born during the gloomy year of 1979 when people are mourning over the loss of their loved ones in the sinking of the ill-fated ferry San Juan, and also when the local economy is suffering from the slump in sugar prices. “BACOLOD, BATU KITA” has since then became the battle cry.
