DBM to establish procurement depot in Panay provinces this year
The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) is set to establish three Procurement Services Depot in Iloilo, Aklan and Capiz within the year.
DBM regional director Alfonso Bedonia said the establishment of a depot is mandated under Republic Act 9184 or the Government Procurement Act of 2003 and the Letter of Instruction 775 for the establishment of procurement service for common use supplies.
Its establishment would “bring the market closer to its clientele,” he said.
Bedonia added that prices of supplies being sold in depots are 30 to 40 percent lower than the market price.
To date, Western Visayas is being served by one service depot based in Bacolod City which is being run by the provincial government of Negros Occidental and the Procurement Service of the DBM-Manila.
It sells office supplies, laptops and desk tops.
The depot is the first to be established outside of Metro Manila, thus the DBM was able to make savings on bulk bidding.
He added that the provincial government was also able to earn about P90 million since it started operating the depot five years ago.
Meanwhile, Bedonia said the Iloilo depot will be established after the May elections.
At present, they are looking for a warehouse near the building of the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) in Plaza Libertad.
Those in Aklan and Capiz will probably be established within the year also, he added. (PNA)
