Better Life for the Community
Uygongco Foundation, Inc. holds job fair
The Uygongco Foundation, Inc. held a two-day job fair early this month at the Amigo Plaza Mall. There were 49 companies that participated in this event, which aims to help job seekers especially the new graduates who will enter the workforce. In this way, the UFI could bridge the gap between the jobseekers and the companies. It will also hasten the length of time for job seeking and the application process.
Apart from companies interviewing and hiring jobseekers, varied activities took place as well. There was a talk on “How to make a good resume”, “How to be impressive in the interview”, company presentations through the Iloilo Business Club and a fashion show that presents to the jobseekers how to dress properly for a job interview.
It was the first time that UFI held a job fair. According to Pia Gan Uygongco, executive director of UFI, this is going to be a yearly event.
The event was in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment, Iloilo Business Club, Inc., Amigo Plaza Mall, BAYO and JCI.
Job fairs are not the only projects that UFI is into in order to provide a “better life for the community and brighter future for our nation.”
They also having feeding and scholarship programs.
The Feeding Program
The Feeding Program of the UFI started last August 3, 2009 in three elementary schools (Hibao-an Elementary School, Bo. Obrero Elementary School, and NJ Ingore Elementary School) and two day care centers (Bo. Obrero Day Care Center and Mansaya Day Care Center).
Each elementary school has 40 Grade 1 beneficiaries each. The number of preschoolers depends on their enrollment.
The Feeding Program is a daily school-day feeding. It gives a one full meal feeding to every beneficiary in the form of a heavy snack, lunch, or early dinner depending on what the school has decided. The parents and the teachers are responsible for the marketing of the ingredients for the menu of the day. The parents will then be the ones to cook and serve the food to their children.
The beneficiaries for feeding in the three elementary schools are also the same for scholarship except for Day Care which is not included in the Scholarship Program.
The Scholarship Program
The Scholarship Program of the Foundation caters to 400 students. The Foundation has chosen 10 schools: one (1) elementary and one (1) high school from Jordan, Guimaras; one (1) elementary and one (1) high school from Pres. Roxas, Capiz; and three (3) elementary and three (3) high schools from Iloilo City. There are 40 students per school. For elementary, they are all in Grade 1 and in high school, they are all first year students.
The Program will follow them through till they graduate in elementary or high school provided they maintain the grade requirement asked of them, which is, 75 & above for Elementary and 80 & above for High School.
