Suffering of Capelco consumers to end soon
ROXAS CITY – The suffering of power consumers in Capiz province brought by subsequent brownouts will soon come to an end.
This was assured by Capiz Electric Cooperative (Capelco) general manager Engr. Edgar Diaz as additional power from independent power producers are about to go on line.
Diaz said that the repair and maintenance on the generation plant of Panay Power Corporation (PPC) in Brgy. Ingore, La Paz, Iloilo City would already be finished by the third week of June while the Green Core Palinpinon plant in Negros will likewise be serviceable soon.
Diaz added that stable power supply could be fully attained once the Panay Energy Development Corporation’s coal-fired power plant in Iloilo City starts to operate by the last quarter of this year.
Earlier, Diaz said that Capelco incurred loses of some P500,000 a day because of the shortage of power supply from generation companies.
Diaz said in a press conference held at Dante’s Café last Friday that due to the shortage of power supply given by generation companies, the cooperative has no option but to implement a rotating brownout in the municipalities from 8:30 a.m. o 8:00 p.m. and sometimes up to 9:00 p.m.
Capelco consumers have complained about the successive brownouts happening for several weeks.
Capelco has 104,203 member- consumers in the whole province including the component city and it purchased 100 percent power supply from the generation companies.
He said that Capelco has a power supply demand of 23 MW, however, the supply is only 14 MW with a deficit of 9 MW equivalent to 9,000 kilowatts or a loss of some P500,000 a day for the cooperative.
