Woman who faked robbery apologizes
The woman who claimed she was abducted and later robbed finally admitted that she faked her own robbery.
Febe Bautista, 42, of Brgy. South San Jose, Molo, Iloilo City asked for forgiveness from police investigators and the public for whatever trouble she had caused them after claiming that she was robbed of her P50,000 cash while in front of a mall in Mandurriao district last Thursday.
Her confession was done two days after the supposed “abduction” and “robbery” took place.
She justified that she thought of lying to avoid paying her creditor of her P30,000 loan.
Despite what happened, police escorted Bautista to her creditor over the weekend and instructed her to tell the creditor that she could not pay her loan.
Bautista’s story hogged the headlines after she reported to have been abducted and robbed in broad daylight in front of the mall in Mandurriao district Thursday morning.
She claimed that three armed men on board a black car took her bag containing P50,000.
Bautista narrated that she was taken and later left physically unharmed at Brgy. San Sebastian, Sta. Barbara town.
She also claimed that the P50,000 cash was sent by her seaman husband to a fellow crew who handed her the money while they were at the mall.
But it did not take long for police investigators to see loopholes in Bautista’s story.
Senior Supt. Dennis Basngi, director of Iloilo City Police Office, said it was quite impossible for shoppers and security guards not to see the abduction.
Bautista also failed to “produce” her husband’s friend who handed her the P50,000.
