PDEA 6 to charge obstructionist
The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency 6 is preparing to file several cases already against the person who obstructed their anti-drug operation Tuesday last week in Brgy. Tanza-Esperanza, City Proper district in Iloilo City.
PDEA 6 Regional Director Paul Ledesma identified the man as Roberto Chavez, a civilian asset of the National Bureau of Investigation.
He said Chavez will be charged for usurpation of authority, illegal possession of firearm, and obstruction of justice.
Chavez was the armed men who prevented the PDEA 6 and Regional Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group operatives from going inside a drug den in the area.
The delay, Ledesma said, gave a number of drug users the chance to escape.
Only six of the more than 20 persons in the drug den have been arrested.
Chavez is also reportedly a bodyguard of Andrew Altas, brother-in-law of Melvin Odicta, whom police earlier identified as one of the two drug lords in Iloilo City.
Altas, 40, was hurt during a grenade explosion at his father’s house in Jaro district last June 14.
His wife Shirley Odicta is Melvin Odicta’s sister.*
