Products of Western Visayas at SM Megamall
Preparations are now in full swing for the holding of "Panubli-on" 2005 as some Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) that will join this trade fair had already left for Metro Manila on October 23, two days earlier than the scheduled setting up of booths which is on the 25th.
For the third year, this regional trade fair being facilitated by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in cooperation with the Philippine Exporters Confederation, Inc., Chapter VI-A will be held at SM Megamall, Mandaluyong, Metro Manila from October 26 - 30.
DTI 6 Information Officer III Ruby Melliza said around 70 SMEs coming from six provinces of Western Visayas including Palawan will join this year's trade fair to showcase their best products. "The trade fair serves as a venue to expose our SMEs products to the Metro Manila markets and for prospective buyers", Melliza said.
Melliza said this year's fair will feature products from the 31 SMEs under the One Town One Product (OTOP) project of the region.
OTOP is a priority program of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo that encourages the country's micro, small and medium enterprises to produce and market distinct products or services using raw materials and manpower.
Also, on display will be the famous products from the priority projects of the six provinces of the region like the loom-weaving of the province of Aklan, bamboo furnishings of Iloilo, muscuvado of Antique, processed foods, gifts and houseware products of Guimaras, cut-flower and horticulture of Capiz and processed foods and novelty items of Negros Occidental.
Shoppers will be also treated with the famous seafood of Capiz such as its prawns and crabs and delicacies of the city and province of Iloilo.
Melliza said the holding of the trade fair will boost SMEs in the countryside. This will help build SMEs capabilities to become competitive by producing quality products at reasonable prices, acquire knowledge on market trends and information and improving skills on negotiating with buyers.
The 5-day "Panubli-on" 2005 targets to generate a 5 million sales.
