Local execs cited for their contribution to BFAR program
Five mayors and one governor in Western Visayas were given recognition for their continued support to the programs of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic and Resources (BFAR).
The five mayors were Mayor Rolando Distura of Dumangas; Mayor Santiago Escalona of Escalante, Negros Occidental; Mayor Fernando Corvera of San Jose, Antique; Mayor Jed Tirol of Tangalan, Aklan and Mayor Noel Yap of Ivisan, Capiz.
Gov. Sally Perez of Antique and Dr. Ida Siason of the University of the Philippines were also given recognition for their support to the bureau. They were chosen by Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) regional director Sonia Seville from their long list of peoples who contributed much to the bureau’s project.
The certificates of recognition were given last Friday during the commencement of activities in relation to the Fish Conservation Week Celebration. This year’s theme is Kabataan, Pangalagaan, ang Pangisdaan para sa Masaganang Kinabukasan. The yearly celebration of the fish conservation week is mandated by law.
