Leon, Alimodian, Miag-ao vans now free to enter city
ILOILO CITY-Commuters from the towns of Leon, Alimodian and Miag-ao could now be relieved of their woes since Filcab vehicles from said towns would already be allowed entry in the city just like public utility jeepneys.
In last Wednesday's regular session, the Sangguniang Panlungsod approved a resolution allowing the Leon -Alimodian and Miag-ao-UPV Filcab to enter the city.
The resolution was authored by Councilor Eduardo Peñaredondo. The resolution stemmed from the request of Mayor Jerry Treñas to consider the plea and request of the Leon-Alimodian and Miag-ao-UPV Filcab operators.
The resolution is also an offshoot of the numerous petition letters not only from operators but also from its commuters and officials stating their inconvenience and eventual stoppage of their means of public transportation suitable to their attire, schedules, comforts and convenience.
The Perimeter Boundary Ordinance caters only to public utility buses and public utility vehicles and not to vans. The vans have only until the designated terminal to pick up and load their passengers. Though, the Leon-Alimodian and Miag-ao-UPV vans will be allowed to enter the city they would still observe the use of car passes.
The resolution states that there is a peculiarity of situation as far as Filcab operators of Leon-Alimodian and Miag-ao-UPV is concerned. The Leon-Alimodian Filcab operators cater to passengers who are mostly students and employees of the towns being 'dead-end municipalities.'
While, the Miag-ao-UPV Filcab operators are also similarly situated considering that it cater mostly to students and employees of the University of the Philippines in the Visayas and residents of Miag-ao poblacion.
These two groups of Filcab operators are not entitled to the passes extended to public utility jeepneys and some have already stopped operating and the remaining units can barely sustain their operating costs.
