Capiz gov't to implement P20M GMA assistance
Roxas City -- The P20 million check which was personally handed by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to Gov. Vicente Bermejo during her recent visit here will be implemented by the provincial government of Capiz. The check was in the name of the DPWH Regional Office.
The President was the opening guest during the Sinadya sa Halaran Festival held last Dec. 7-11.
The Sangguniang Panlalawigan last Tuesday's regular session passed a resolution authorizing Bermejo to enter into and sign for and in behalf of the province of Capiz a Memorandum of Agreement with the Department of Public Works and Highways for the implementation of the P20 million rehabilitation of the national highway at the second district of Capiz.
It was Cong. Fredenil Castro that lobbied to the President for the allocation of maintenance fund in his district.
The President acknowledged Castro on his effort in looking for funds for the maintenance of the national roads in his district.
Castro sought P187 million for the total rehabilitation of the national highways that run from Capiz-Iloilo to Capiz-Aklan boundaries.
With the P20 million which the President gave, Castro expects that the P167 million will be available this 2006.
Meanwhile, the provincial board also passed two other resolutions approving Bermejo's request for a supplemental budget of P594, 921 for the construction of an elevator shaft to be installed at the Capiz Provincial Capitol building, and the realignment of funds from the office of the governor in the amount of P20 million for the road improvement and concreting, and provincial government assistance to local government units.
