Gov't agencies urged to let people feel its services
Iloilo -- Presidential Adviser for Western Visayas Rafael Coscoluela told members of the Regional KALAHI Convergence Group (RKCG) that as critical partners in implementing anti-poverty reduction strategy, they have the responsibility to show that it is not "difficult to deal with government."
Coscolluela said that government agencies, particularly, are often perceived by the public to be slow in responding to their needs and that most of the time, the latter do not know what the services the agencies are supposed to deliver.
The Presidential Adviser said that government agencies should try to work closely together with the other sectors in addressing the ""increasing sense of frustration" of the people and make them feel that government is delivering.
He further said that let not the people believe thatgovernment has failed to respond to the problems of the poorer sectors in society simply because the agencies concerned have failed to act fast, even if they have actually delivered.
Coscolluelaposed the challenge for agencies to communicate better what they are doing so that the people will ""appreciate the role of government in meeting their concerns."
He proposed the formulation of a strategic communication plan for each agency of government that will define how they can better respond, in a suitable manner, to the needs of their clients, and for them, to effectivelycommunicatetheir programs and accomplishments.
Coscolluela's statements came in the height of President Gloria Arroyo's call for government agencies to conduct performance audit oftheir agencies, to know their weaknesses and strengths and find out how they can best serve the people.(PIA)
