OPINION POLLS
The organizers of 2006 Jaro Fiesta have chosen Camille Villar as this year's Jaro Queen. Do you think they made the right choice?
TIBONG JARDELEZA
As a Salognon my apologies to the family of Senator Villar who made him believe that the Salognon will pretend just like the fairy tale king and his golden robe. Whatever their reason and how much they would spend, still she will never be accepted as an heir to the throne. The organizers should have thought the trauma of an innocent bystander who was pushed to claim what is not rightfully hers. Being a Jaro Queen is a privilege only for a legitimate daughter of a Salognon and not for sale. And if they defend their bobo's and claim that wala matahum nga may kuarta nag huo sa ila, then, it just shows that the committee assigned to search for the heir to the throne is by prominence not a Salognon.
MICHAEL CALING
It was once an honor for Jaro's buena familia to offer a daughter to be the queen, but the change of tides has arrived. For years the organizing committee have been courting these families for their daughters, apos, relatives by consanguinity or at last resort by affinity but they turned their backs. Economics and changing moral standards might be the reason, but I don't blame Ms. Camille Villar who does not have a drop of Jareño blood in her as being queen but I say to the still illustrious and indifferent JAREÑOS... MIRESE!!!
SHARON STONE
There are something's that come your way without pushing for it... but if you push your weight around to get something you want, it leaves a bad taste in the mouth.
DR. LOUIE TIRADOR
No. She is not from Jaro. Political accommodation is the obvious reason. Nakakahiya!!!
DR. WENDY UY
If her ancestors are from Jaro, Iloilo, they made the right choice!
DR. THERESE JARANTILLA-ROBLES
No. She is not from Jaro. An outsider!
EMMA NAVA
I really don't care whom the organizers choose....
STELLA ARUNGAYAN
They have always made the choosing of the Jaro Queen controversial. I think #1 qualification is family roots should be traced in Jaro. Others follow like capacity and beauty. Did they make the right choice? Is it yes to first requirement?
BERD VARGAS
I guess it is not a good decision since Camille is not from Jaro. I don't think that Jaro has run out of probable and willing lass to stand as queen.
MALEN LOCSIN
A Jaro queen from the past was an honor given to young and true blooded Jareños. But because of the situation of how the fiesta is celebrated, no Jareño would like to have their relative participate. So the organizers have to look outside.
DR. FREDDIE LOPEZ
No. I would prefer somebody who lives here.
SUSIE FACULTAD
Frankly speaking, I really don't care who they choose to be the queen of Jaro. As long as she has the looks, the height, the body of a beauty queen and the money to spend for her gowns and other expenses, comes from a good family of Jaro, and a Christian, then; she deserves to be a queen.
BOBOT PAMPOLINA, JR.
Yes, we welcome fiesta queens with Ilonggo ancestry and willing to bring the honor of Iloilo's grandest district to the whole Philippines and perhaps the world.
OSCAR NAVA
If they based their decision on good looks--they made the right choice. If based on spending money--they made the right choice. If they based on good moral character and behavior--they made the right choice. If they based on traditional selection--they're way OFF on left field all the way to the moon!
DR. CESAR UY
I'm sure the good Senator will not allow her daughter to be the Queen of Jaro fiesta if the rules won't permit it.
CANDY CAMPOS
No. Is this showbiz politics?
ERWIN CHIONGSON
If the organizer's current objective is to raise funds they possibly made the best choice. In fact, they should add honorary QUEEN MOTHER and FATHER positions if it added to their fund raising leverage!
JUN TILLAFLOR
I think they made the right choice. For me, it's not really necessary to be a bonafide resident of Jaro to be the queen as long as you have roots here and have enough resources.
ART GEROCHE
If the Villars want to participate in Jaro Fiesta, what's wrong? We are Filipinos, right?
DR. JEREMY SAQUIAN
I don't know the criteria of choosing the rightful queen. To me it does not matter.
EUGENE BORRES. LUCERO
Is she from here? Or is she the daughter of Manny Villar. If she is from Jaro, then it's OK. Since tradition states that the queen of Jaro should come from the family of people living in Jaro. But if the purpose is to raise funds, then that's a different story. Whatever happened to tradition?
BICBIC PADILLA
Criteria for being chosen as Jaro queen today are for whoever has the money to burn and not necessarily of Jaro descent.
LYDIA PENDON
Yes, Camille Villar is suited to be queen of Jaro. The pomp pageantry in riches of Jaro are met by Camille whose father is also an Ilonggo.
DR. KRISTIN TRENAS
I can't really comment because I don't k now the criteria / qualifications.
PATTY BORRES-GARCIA
Sorry I am not from Jaro so I really don't know the criteria. But I wish the queen has linkage from Jaro, di bala?
ATTY. JOSE "Pepe" DEMAISIP
I would be treading on dangerous ground if I take a partisan stand on this considering that the rules on the selection process have not been disseminated in a transparent manner.
JOSIE ABAD-CARAM
Yes. It has always been for the one who can afford or who's willing to spend. It just so happened that her father is on of the few who can afford nowadays to spend and to make his daughter an instant resident of Jaro.
NEIL LAAS
No! Because first, I don't know her. And, I don't know why they have chosen her? What's her significant contribution to us that would entitle her for such title? And what is their basis in choosing her?
IRMA LIM
I don't think it is right! The choosing of Candelaria queen has been founded on tradition. Putting someone with no lineage to an old Jaroleño family will become a bad precedent. We will lose the essence and the pride that goes with the long treasured tradition.
SAM PRUDENTE
The organizers have every right to honor their choice for the Jaro Fiesta. After all, ideally all daughters of Jaro are given equal privileges of being chosen.
DR. ED DIAZ
I don't see any problem with their choice... I think Camille is more than qualified. She has everything a queen needs to have...
EUGENE JAMERLAN
What are the criteria to begin with? Maybe if people's taxes are used for her expenses then maybe I have the right to have a say. Otherwise, let's just watch the parade.
CIRILO CALABIO
I don't know much of this lady, however, I read a lot of article about her and I think she is qualified to be a queen... Like Helen of Troy, she is not from Troy yet she is the queen of Troy! We should learn from her values and her virtues which could be beneficial in enhancing our culture. Being the Queen of Jaro is not merely about the honor but a woman who could be an instrument for us to be little mature in making us think better.
