Tupas accepts invitation to dine with GMA
Gov. Niel D.Tupas recently accepted the invitation of Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treņas to dine with Pres. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, this coming January 28, 2006 at Tatoy's Restaurant in celebration of the Dinagyang festival to be hosted by the city government.
Tupas was obliged to attend as a matter of protocol and refused to comment further on the invitation.
Observers are anxious to see the anticipated meeting of PGMA and Tupas, considered a certified ally of the former, until the scandal of "Garci Tape"; exploded middle of last year which threatened PGMA's cling to power.
Tupas since then refused to speak ill of PGMA yet professed and remained his loyalty to Liberal Party where he officially belongs and to its chairman Senate Pres. Franklin Drilon.
Pres. Arroyo has been on provincial sorties as of late attending fiesta celebrations and other tourism related events in different regions.
Treņas in a phone interview yesterday denied any political agenda is in the can during the scheduled dinner with the president. He is not exerting any efforts for the reconciliation of the two, added Treņas.
"It's up to them if they want to explore the situation,"; Treņas further said.
Meanwhile, Tupas at the groundbreaking rites of the new Land Registration Authority Monday, revealed he is open for a unification call of the national government particularly beneficial to all the Ilonggos.
However, Tupas added, he was ready to put his life on the line once their rights are being trumpled upon. Tupas made his statement in the presence of Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez, Sr. and Mayor Jerry Treņas. (Capitol News)
