GMA has yet to cancel Iloilo trip.
Iloilo City -- Amid reports of an impending coup d' etat, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has yet to cancel her trip to Iloilo scheduled on January 28, in time with the Kasadyahan festival.
Mayor Jerry Treņas said he has yet to receive official communication from Malacaņang on the cancellation of the President's trip to Iloilo. The President is also scheduled to visit the municipalities of Guimbal in the southern part of Iloilo and Concepcion, in northern Iloilo.
Last week, the President set aside some of her provincial sorties after reports on the impending coup d' etat cropped up following the escape of four Oakwood mutineers from a detention cell inside the Army Headquarters in Fort Bonifacio, Makati City last week. The four officers are Lts. Patricio Bumindang, Lawrence San Juan, Nathaniel Rabonza and Sonny Sarmiento.
Treņas said they expect to receive official communication this week if there would be cancellation on the President's arrival. Nevertheless, the chief executive assured the people of their safety. Apart from the police force of the Iloilo City Police Office, the Police Regional Office 6 and other military units are also tapped to maintain peace and order during the festivity.
Aside from the President, several foreign dignitaries and national officials have signified their intentions to witness this year's Dinagyang festival. (Maricar Calubiran)
