DENR distributes 37 hectares of lands in Miagao, Iloilo
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) through its field Office in CENRO Iloilo City had distributed a total of 105 land patents to the patentees at the Municipal Cultural Center of Miagao, Iloilo, just recently.
Leading the distribution were Miag-ao Mayor Gerardo Flores, OIC RED, RTD for Research Alicia L. Lustica, RTD for lands Antonio L. Luis, LMS Chief, Surveys Division Mamerto Caballero, PENRO Iloilo Valentin Talabero, CENRO Iloilo City Bernabe Garnace with Representative from the Register of Deeds Melanie Fernandez.
These 105 patents constitutes to about 37.1519 hectares of lands distributed to the different beneficiaries coming from the different sitios of 45 barangays of the municipality of Miag-ao.
In his welcome message, Mayor Gerardo Flores commended the DENR for the significant activity that benefited his constitu ents mostly coming from remote barangays. He also emphasized his continued support for the department's programs and projects that he believed could help in the upliftment of the socio-economic condition of the people.
In his brief explanation about "People's Day", PENRO Talabero said that this activity is a brainchild of the former DENR 6 RED Vicente S. Paragas whose main objective is bringing the ENR services closer to the people. This was launched in the Municipality of Malay, Aklan last March of 2003.
RTD Alicia L. Lustica, in behalf of RED Julian D. Amador, stressed the importance of having a security of tenure in the lot they are occupying. RTD Luis briefed the participants on the processes involved in land titling and the significance of the activity dubbed as "Handog Titulo".
CENRO Iloilo City lands personnel had closely coordinated with the Register of Deeds and informed the claimants of titled lots pending before the ROD. Of the more than 300 land claimants, 105 were finally distributed during the Handog Titulo program.
The top management of the DENR were so convinced about the impact of the activity especially to the far-flung communities, had implemented this in all regions nationwide. Secretary Angelo T. Reyes also believed that this activity is an answer to the program of the government under the administration of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo of bringing the government to the grassroots as well as to uplift poverty alleviation.
