Sayaw Pinoy sa Iloilo 2006 set
"Dance is an expression of happiness," says Ma. Theresa S. Sarabia, Ph.D, Vice President of St. Therese-MTC Colleges, the local host of the Sayaw Pinoy sa Iloilo 2006, on a press conference held at West Visayas Cultural Center last February 21, 2006. This is in relation to the celebration of the National Arts Month this February.
The National Commission for Culture and Arts works hand in hand with the Department of Tourism, the City of Iloilo, and the Iloilo City Convention Bureau together with participating schools to bring right before your eyes the Sayaw Pinoy sa Iloilo 2006 this coming February 24 at exactly 3:00 pm at the West Visayas State University Cultural Center. It is a sequel to the Bayle Ilonggo, a dance showdown, that was held at the Robinson's Place Iloilo last year. The event will showcase the dancing prowess of the Ilonggos as represented by the four legitimate Ilonggo dance troupes: The Hugyaw Arts Company of St. Therese-MTC Colleges, the Kawilihan of the University of San Agustin, the Annie Divinagracia Sartorio School of Performing Arts, and the Irong Irong Dance Company of the West Visayas State University of PESCAR. These groups will have a back to back performance with the Manila's most sought-after dance sensations, the Bayanihan (the Philippine National Folk Dance Company) and the Powerdance. The show will unmask the many faces of dancing. Entice your senses with the neo-ethnic and the neo-classical repertiore with the Annie Divinagracia Sartorio's masterpieces. Fulfill your cravings with the Irong Irong's ethnic, social, rural, and theatrical presentation. Feel the beat and indulge yourself to the Kawilihan's hip hop moves. Hold your breath for a historical ride as the Hugyaw Dancers brings the folk dances back to life.
The program is a part of the NCCA Touring Dance Concert. This time, they will be performing in cities and provinces they have never been to before like Cagayan de Oro, Laoag, Nueva Ecija, Iligan City, Malaybalay in Bukidnon, Municipality of Villanueva, and Iloilo. It is percieved to determine the quality of Ilonggo dancers with that of those from Manila and to attact local and foreign tourists alike through dacing.
Tickets, though limited to an approximately 1,500 crowd and are almost sold out, are still available at the St. Therese-MTC College.
