Designers' Guild of Iloilo's New Works at Robinsons
Fashion by definition changes every six months. Fashion designers are given the challenge to interpret ahead what clothing options buyers might have the desire to wear. In a sense, fashion designers proposes a collection based on what he feels may be on the radar in popular culture, music, art, travel, etc. It is the job of real designers to come up with a collection that is both inspired and functional.
Robinsons Place Iloilo teamed up with the Designers' Guild of Iloilo to present the "New Works" collections of Jaki Peñalosa using the latest accessory designs designs Bitsy Bebsy; Bo Parcon with Ichi Pichi and Don Protasio with Color Stone.
Relaxed, optimistic and lounge were the catchwords for Summer 2006. Peñalosa's earthy sensuality in mostly beige, brown and black pieces have distressed details anchored with her signature embroidery. Parcon's black and yellow outbursts have that "Chill-out Project from sundown to sunset" vibe to it. He cited Madonna's "Confession on the Dancefloor" as an inspiration. Protasio's pieces are arts & craft inspired but somewhat introverted. He used handstitching and hand painting in his black and dusty pink pieces. Picture City and Paul Chiongson covered the event.
