Night market to further city's economic progress
Iloilo City -- The night market contrived to lump sidewalk vendors together in just one area, is expected by the city government to give the city's growing economy a further boost.
As planned, the night market will be situated along Muelle Loney Street starting from Quirino Bridge to the corner of Yulo Street and will be open to the public from 7 to 11 in the evening.
Mayor Jerry Treñas, who is supporting the endeavor, said the night market will provide a safe place for all residents to buy what the vendors are selling.
Treñas said that some 80 vendors have already signified their interests in plying their trade at the night market by applying for the kiosks made available at the site. The site itself can accommodate as much as 200 kiosks and is available for selling general merchandise or various foodstuff, the mayor explained.
The mayor also said that some of the future plans for the night market include setting up live shows or concerts to attract and entertain the public.
Kiosk applicants will be required to pay P20 per night to help in the maintenance of the area. Policemen will be detailed to ensure the safety of patrons and sellers, while portable toilets will be installed in strategic locations.
The tentative date for the opening of the night market is set on March 29th. The mayor also asked for the understanding of the general public on the first few nights of the night market's operation. He said that these would be the "observation" period and that things learned from the observance will be utilized for improving the night market further.
Treñas is likewise certain that the night market will help in the economic development of the city, and feels it will become an attraction for all visitors here.
