Police map out plans for Holy Week
Iloilo City -- As the Holy Week holidays come close the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) is preparing security measures to ensure the safety of city residents.
The ICPO considers five criminal elements in the society which may take advantage and disrupt peace and order as the Christian World observes the Holy Week second week next month.
The police are eyeing thieves, robbers, communist dissidents, religious extremists and anti-government forces as the possible sectors who may sabotage the peaceful observance of Holy Week.
Police said thieves and robbers may take advantage of the absence of homeowners who would be out on vacation.
The communist dissidents might also take advantage of the situation by attacking or harassing the police headquarters or police stations to advance their cause and gain tri-media attention and embarrass the present government, said an ICPO report.
While, religious extremist and anti-government forces may initiate terroristic activities to instill disorder and create fear during the observance of Holy Week.
With the identification of these "nefarious elements," police have created several measures to maintain peace and order and prevent the occurrence of any untoward incidents.
Among these measures, are the deployment of police personnel in every churches, enforcement of traffic control along highways/streets to and from resorts, churches, plazas and other places wherein people frequently visit during Lenten Season.
Police will also provide personnel to watch parked vehicles against carnappers and members of the "bukas kotse" gang.
