Young Ilonggo farmer reckons wonderful memories of Japan
Iloilo -- His training in Japan has not only given him enough knowledge on his field of interest but also the Japanese value of hardwork and time management.
This was recollection of Peter Sucaldito, 23, of Brgy. Daga, Sta. Barbara, Iloilo, a young farmer who undertook one year of training on cutflower propagation in Pukaya-shi, Saitama Ken, Japan.
Sucaldito is one of the young farmers in the Province of Iloilo who qualified to undergo training in Japan to learn Japanese technologies and techniques in farming.
He said his experience as well has ultimately changed his attitude and values, which has been inculcated in his psyche to show respect on others and to be honest.
Sucaldito said what he has learned from Japan will eventually be extended to young farmers in his area as a way of showing gratitude to the community that cuddled him to be a better citizen.
During his training, which started on March 24th of last year and ended on March 12th of this year, he was able to propagate different varieties of cacti (cutflower family) such as brita, kinegar, raitomari, mari, waitobiro, niri, arexu, karmen, rite and dakumari, among others.
He said these varieties originally propagated in Tagaytay (Philippines) but was later exported to Denmark to be saved from infestation.
From Japan, he brought some varieties of these cacti to be raised in his cutflower garden, the only varieties suited in Philippine climate.
Meanwhile, Sucaldito expressed gratitude to Waling-Waling Terrania, Farm Youth Development Program Coordinator (FYDP) of Sta. Barbara for his guidance, especially to Gov. Niel D. Tupas, Sr. and Sta. Barabar Mayor Isabelo Maquino for their financial support they extended for his training.
