Traffic fines collection reached to P1.2 M
There is a tremendous increase in the number of apprehended drivers in the city as well as its corresponding fines collected by city government for the first quarter of this year.
Records from the Traffic Management and Engineering Unit (TMEU) showed fines collected already reached to P1,256,000.
Drivers penalized from January to March reached 22,014.
The first quarter records of arrest and fines collection is much higher compared last year of the same period. In the first quarter of 2005, there were 13,025 driver violators who were apprehended. The fines collected reached to P718,270.
However, the same report released by Rafaelito Jamolo, license-in-charge at the City Hall Detachment did not contain the violations frequently committed by the drivers. It was not also specified whether how many of the driver violators are city drivers and how many are provincial drivers.
In same report, the total number of arrested drivers for 2005 totaled to 58,768. The total collected fines reached to P3,306,620.
In the comparative report, there is also an increase of apprehensions and collections of fines in in 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003. Except for 2004, where the number of violators and fines increased. The collection decreased by more than P1 million in 2004 compared to 2003.
In 2000, there were 24,744 drivers who were apprehended and the fines reached to P1,002,629. The following year, there were 34,755 drivers who were arrested and P1,833,815 million fines were collected.
In 2002, there were 62,357 drivers who were arrested and P3,769,680 fines were collected. And in 2003, there were 58,467 drivers who were arrested and P3,676,710 fines were collected.
However, in 2004, there were only 44,512 drivers who were arrested and only P2,947,421 fines were collected from the erring drivers.
