Aklan Kalahi farmers showcase bigger, better produce
Teeming with golden harvest from the produce of Aklanon farmers, the KALAHI Farmers' Center (KFC) joins the Province of Aklan's 50th anniversary celebration marking the best years and best produce from among the 14 agrarian reform communities (ARCs) in Aklan.
The bestseller products range from organically grown vegetables, hybrid rice, nito handicrafts, hand woven sinamay cloth, soft brooms, mats, processed foods, abacca slippers and twine, knotted fibers and coconut by-products. These agricultural products are the pride of Aklan's ARCs comprising of 85 barangays province-wide. This year's participation to the Agro-Trade Fair is financed by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) -- Philippines-Australia Technical Support for Agrarian Reform and Rural Development (PATSARRD).
FAO-PATSARRD had been in the forefront of support to operationalize the KALAHI Farmers' Center in Aklan as an area for convergence towards the improvement of the economic and social conditions of the farmers. During this trade fair, PATSARRD facilitated with the Department of Trade and Industry and representatives of LGU - Cebu the visit of sinamay exporters and other interested buyers.
The product showcase is one of the highlights of the 50TH Aklan Anniversary Celebration which features the 7th Piña Fiber Festival, Tsibugan sa Kapitolyo and the 1st Information, Communication & Technology Summit and Exhibits.
