Drivers decry wanton arrestsThe Pinagkaisang Samahan ng Tsuper at Operators Nationwide (Piston) has called for a stop to the widespread and arbitrary arrests of drivers of passenger jeepneys plying various routes in the city. The group held a mobile picket last Friday to protest what they dub as pure acts of harassment against the drivers. |

Dr. Tomambo replaced Dr. Bernabe Cocjin who led the program from 1986 to 2005. Dr. Cocjin who is famous as a "darag guru " retired from the government service last December 2005.
Iloilo, at present, is the business center of the Visayas. It has the greatest number of banks outside of Manila - more than 150 banks. A great amount of deposits in these banks come from the agricultural sector since Iloilo is primarily agricultural land chiefly producing rice earning it the name "rice granary of the Philippines."

The Department of Agriculture has identified 62 mango growers in the city and province of Iloilo. Statistics show that there are 14,390 fruit bearing and 14,975 non-fruit bearing mango trees giving a total of 29,365.
