Antique provides assistance to disadvantaged families, communities
San Jose, Antique -- The Provincial Government of Antique provided assistance to dysfunctional and disadvantaged individuals, families and communities in the province to help Antiqueños cope up with different crises situations in life.
Lazaro Petinglay, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer (PSWDO) said that Governor Salvacion Z. Perez provided annual financial allocation for disadvantaged individuals from the 20% Internal Revenue Allocation (IRA).
PSWDO data revealed that in 2005 the Provincial Government of Antique has released more than P400 thousand to 175 individuals and families in crises situation. The Municipality of San Jose got the biggest slice of P121 thousand benefiting 42 individuals. Top 5 towns which benefited from the provincial aid are Sibalom with P82,000 given to 30 individuals; P68,000 for the town of San Remigio given to 23 beneficiaries; Hamtic and Patnongon got P46,000 for 19 people and P25,000 for 11 beneficiaries respectively.
According to Careen Panaguiton, Social Worker of the PSWDO assistance of the province in crises situations covers hospitalization and burial expenses of depressed families, assistance to women in especially difficult circumstances and support to survivors of violence against women and children. In order to avail of said assistance, individuals should secure the certificate of indigence and social case analysis from the office of the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office in their respective towns.
Under the 20% IRA of the province, PSWDO also allocates funds for disaster preparedness and relief operations, persons with disabilities, senior citizens, solo parents, skills training for out of school youth, seminar on parent effectiveness service and empowerment (PES) and reaffirmation of paternal abilities (ERPAT) and aid to productivity skills capability building for women.
All towns in the province have their own local appropriations to assist dysfunctional and disadvantage individuals and families in their respective areas despite the fact that most have availed of the financial assistance from the Provincial Government.
