Please leave the Cascades concert alone
Thousands of Ilonggo music enthusiasts especially those coming from the 70s are agog over the forthcoming June 18, 2006 concert of popular American band Cascades at the Central Philippine University in Jaro, Iloilo City.
Since it was advertised that the band is coming for a concert, excitement has been soaring up high in the horizon that organizers are reportedly being swamped with ticket reservations from as far as Mindanao and Palawan.
As a true-blue music lover, I consider the Cascades as among the only few bands that I like most when I was in my teens and until today. That's why I was also excited to hear that the charismatic band is coming to enthrall the Ilonggos.
But a month before the concert, Steve O'Neal Productions, a group which won the rights to promote the concert here, is reportedly being harassed by a disgruntled rival concert promoter which is now determined to sabotage the concert by filing a suit at the Iloilo Hall of Justice.
Oh my, are we not a democratic society? I mean, what kind of mentality is this? If Steve O'Neal Productions secured the rights to hold the concert in a fair deal, why harass them just because another rival group was left with an empty bag?
To me, the actuations of hauling to court the producer just because somebody lost in the bidding or in whatever manner to secure the rights to hold the concert here is childish and uncalled for.
Nowadays, there are many popular bands in the United States waiting to be tapped for concerts here. The aggrieved party should tap other foreign bands and book them for another schedule here instead of disparaging the promoter that obtained the rights to bring Cascades here in Iloilo City.
Why deny the thousands of Ilonggo fans of a world class entertainment because only of intramurals and jealousy?
We must rise above the level of crab mentality and respect the rights of everybody in this open market of competition. We are already in the 21st century, in the new millennium, and envy and bitterness have no place in this advanced civilization.
C'mon, let's be fair to all concerned. When the other rock bands performed in Iloilo City in the past, the other promoters and producers that have no participation whatsoever in the said productions never threatened with legal blackmail their colleagues in the industry.
And now that it is their turn to bring joy and world class entertainment to music loving Ilonggos, they are called names and harassed like criminals.
For several weeks now, The Cascades concert here is already being advertised extensively at the CPU Channel of Sky/Sun Cable with VJS Productions as alleged producer.
Please leave the Cascades concert alone. Don't deny us our happiness, our once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to hear in a live show the greatest hits such as "Shy Girl", "Rhythm of the Falling Rain", "Lucky Guy", "I Wanna be your Lover", "Punch and Judy show", among other top hits of the group that has become part of our household and memory.
