Interesting political developments
Political developments in the local landscape are getting interesting each passing day now that some Iloilo politicians have started to reveal their true colors this early. Even age-old friendships and kinship are no longer valued because of selfish personal and political interests which have become the topmost priority of many local politicians now angling for juicy elective positions in 2007.
Their favorite whipping boy is, as usual, Iloilo Gov. Niel D. Tupas, Sr. who seems to be one of the most blessed public servants in this part of the region in terms of durability and longevity.
Since last year, political enemies of Gov. Tupas have been sleepless plotting how to deliver the fatal blow that would bring him to queer streets and end his reign in the provincial government with a big thud.
The series of congressional investigations where millions of taxpayers' money have been wasted were actually used as avenues to unleash their demonic intentions to no avail. Although they are now things of the past, the millions of pesos that were wasted from those zarzuelas can no longer be brought back and utilized to finance projects and programs that would redound to the benefit of the common tao.
As election time approaches, expect politicians to step up their wrangling and abandon their primary obligation to the taxpayers.
Sincere public servants who spend their time charting the future of their constituents during their incumbency will be among the biggest casualties because they are at the receiving end.
But the Ilonggo electorate is now intelligent. They know who are talking trash and who are genuine performers. Congressman Rolex Suplico of the 5th district of Iloilo maybe serious in his gubernatorial bid, but deep inside, the possibility of hurting his uncle reverberates in his conscience.
He knows that his chances against the well-loved governor are nil and the only way to upstage him is to banish him from the face of the earth. But the longshot congressman might realize in the long run that he may have allied himself with the wrong personalities in his bid to defrock the incumbent governor.
While there is time, he must have started to review and reevaluate his plans and strategies so as not to totally alienate himself from the numerically superior clan while at the same time preserving his ambition even beyond 2007.

Despite efforts and threats from a rival group to discourage a certain concert promoter to bring The Cascades for a concert here, the show will push through as scheduled on June 18, 2006 at the Central Philippine University.
Jealousy and envy could be the reasons why a certain local group has threatened to sue the promoter of The Cascades concert here. Strange because in other cities in the country where The Cascades are also booked to perform, everything is fine and everyone is cooperative.
Why is the Ilonggo different? Can't we set aside intramurals and see to it that The Cascades concert will become successful.
If they will stop the concert of that great American band here, they will hurt the Ilonggo entertainment fans, not the millionaire singers who popularized the "Punch and Judy Show", among other memorable songs.
