To watch or not to watch 'The Da Vinci Code'
Christians who truly love and fear Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior may choose to desist from seeing the controversial film or read the fictional novel "The Da Vinci Code" as it may upset them. A person may joke on something else but not on the Holy God. If a Christian has already seen the movie or read the novel, is he commiting a sin? God knows. "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 6:23.
The novel, "The Da Vinci Code" is a fiction and Webster defined it, "an assumption of a possible thing as a fact irrespective of the question of its truth." Why blasphem the name of Jesus Christ, the Holy God? In Psalm 34:9, says: "Oh, fear the Lord, you His saints! There is no want to those who fear Him." The other criminal hanging on the cross during the crucifixion of Jesus rebuked his fellow criminal, saying, "Do you not even fear God seeing you are under the same condemnation?" Luke 23:40.
In the 66 books of the old and new Testaments including the scrolls recently found in the Dead Sea (Israel), there was no mention that Jesus Christ got married with Mary Magdalene and fathered a son. Even world-renown Bible scholars and writers have not mentioned on their writings such incident. When Jesus was here on earth during his boyhood days, He was always in the temple listening and asking questions from Bible teachers. His earthly mother Mary and father Joseph used to look for Him around Jerusalem. "Now so it was that after three days they found Him (Jesus) in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions. And all who heard Him were astonished at His understanding and answers. So when they saw Him, they were amazed; and His mother said to Him: 'Son, why have You done this to us? Look, Your father and I have sought You anxiously." And He said to them, "Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father's business?" Luke 2:46, 47, 48 & 49. During His manhood, Jesus went with His 12 disciples around Israel and beyond preaching the Word of God, healing the sick, giving sight to the blind, fishing, and doing many divine works of God the Father. Together with the 12 disciples, they ate, dined, traveled and slept and could not be possible that He had an affair with a woman. Judas Escariot, the betrayer of the Lord and one of the 12 disciples could have exposed Jesus if it was true that his Master had an affair with a woman.
Jesus Christ is Holy God and to be feared. "Who shall not fear You, O Lord, and glorify Your name? For You alone are Holy. For all nations shall come and worship before You, for your judgements have been manifested," Revelation 15:4. The Philippine Alliance Against Pornography in a news item in a Manila daily recently, denounced the film. "Jesus marrying Mary Magdalene and having children with her, is the most pornographic and blasphemous film in history." In Jewish law, blasphemy is cursing or reviling God or the king who was God's representative. Pornography as defined by Webster, "obscene or licentious writing or painting." The Manila City Council through a resolution sponsored by Councilor Benjamin Asilo banned the showing of the movie in Manila's moviehouses. Charismatic and born again Christians in America had banded together in censuring the film and book. The Philippine government through MTRCB officials had allowed the showing of the controversial film. The Roman Catholic hierarchy in the Philippines has also denounced the R-18 film but short of stopping its showing in moviehouses. Christians all overeating Europe, Latin American countries, and some Asian countries have also opposed the showing and reading the books.
If for curiosity sake, Christians will see the movie or read the book, are they not a witness to this blasphemous act? God only knows for He is omnipotent, omnicient and omnipresent.
