Health officials sound off Dengue alarm
Dengue alert is up anew as cases continue to increase now throughout Western Visayas. Iloilo has eleven on record with Negros Occidental topping the list of the most-afflicted province with 142 cases. The figures and actual ‘Dengue scenario' is feared to be higher with most cases left unreported.
As such, Health officials here called for more precautions as appeals were made for immediate medical help in suspected Dengue cases.
In a report, The News Today (TNT) gathered that Capiz thus far has nine confirmed Dengue patients and four in Aklan. As since been campaigned, the Department of Health (DOH) repeatedly called for community action in fighting off and preventing Dengue outbreaks.
Dr. Fabian Mabasa, regional Dengue/Malaria coordinator of the DOH here validated field reports of the Dengue incidents while stressing that help is available particularly in government hospitals.
Symptoms include high-grade fever usually beyond three days and stomach pains with victims usually children and the elderly.
The DOH has now launched an extensive drive with the Dengue carrier-mosquito known to flourish during rainy season.
Mabasa in radio interviews stressed the need for sanitary conditions as tie-ups were made in government schools and other agencies for the clean-up drive and anti-Dengue campaign.
