Manggahan Festival highlights tourism potential of Guimaras
The annual Manggahan Festival of the island province of Guimaras has highlighted its tourism potential with its white beaches still waiting to be discovered by tourists after having been dubbed as almost at par with Boracay.
The Manggahan Festival serves to commemorate the founding anniversary of Guimaras as a province from being just an island of Iloilo City.
As the people in the island celebrated the occasion, they also took the opportunity to display their topmost product, which is the mango.
"It's a matter of pushing for the position of the province in terms of tourism and the same way promoting the flagship commodity which is our mangoes and other products," Guimaras Governor Rahman Nava said.
During the celebration, which culminated just recently, Nava said Guimaras was launched as an island for adventure sports because of its terrain.
The mountain biking routes were established Monday last week while the sea that surrounds the island is considered an ideal venue for motorized banca race.
Nava noted that Guimaras plays host to thousands of visitors, the number of which doubles every year.
In 2005, close to 180,000 tourists were registered to have set their foot at the island province.
