P1.7-M schoolbuildings, other infra completed in solar town
ROXAS CITY -- A new schoolbuilding worth P889,516.00 and the repair of a similar schoolbuilding worth P846,871.00 were among the new infrastructure projects that have been implemented in the municipality of Tapaz, Capiz that has also become known as one of the areas in the country that have used solar energy as an alternative source of power.
Tapaz Community Development Information Officer Margie Gimeno said the newly constructed three-classroom schoolbuilding was constructed at Roosevelt Elementary School in Barangay Roosevelt in the town's East Schools District.
Another schoolbuilding project involved the repair of a 3-classroom unit at San Miguel Ilawod Elem. School in Brgy. San Miguel Ilawod, also in the same schools district.
Based on records from the Office of Municipal Engineer Vic Jimenez, the sources of funds for the school projects were the Third Elementary Education Project (TEEP) spearheaded by the Department of Education (DepEd) and the local government unit.
The other completed projects include the following: pump irrigation concrete canal channel at Brgy. San Antonio, P440,000.00; dormitory for members of the indigenous people community at Sitio Sibaguan in Brgy. Initan, P180,000.00; concrete cross drain in front of the town public market and improvement of drainage at said facility, P120,054.00; concreting of sidewalk along a poblacion street, P44,000.00; and repainting of town plaza, P30,108.00.
The funds for these projects came from the 20 percent development fund of the Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) share of the municipal government for 2005.
Gimeno said there are three ongoing projects in the municipality worth P4, 240,000.00.These are construction of a farm-to-market road from Brgy. Abangay to Brgy. Lahug funded to the tune P3,000,000.00 by the Department of Agriculture and improvement of the town's civic center and expansion of the municipal hall building with a funding of P1,000,000.00 and P240,000.00, respectively, from the 20 percent development fund.
All in all, the entire set of projects in the municipality headed by Mayor Romualdo G. Exmundo, Jr. cost P6, 790,550.00.
At least 400 homes in 21 barangays of the municipality that cannot be reached by the power grid of Capiz Electric Cooperative (CAPELCO) obtain their electricity from the sun using solar panels and battery charging stations.
