Senior citizens coop at Plaza Libertad questioned
The Sangguniang Panlungsod junked the request of the Association of Barangay Chairmen (ABC) of the City Proper to conduct an investigation "in aid of legislation" relative to the presence of private structures and enterprises at Plaza Libertad particularly the Senior Citizen Multi-Purpose Cooperative.
The committee on senior citizens chaired by Councilor Erlinda Liberiaga as well as the committee on tourism chaired by Councilor Merci Garcia and committee on infrastructure led by Councilor Jed Mabilog instead will study first whether it is appropriate for them to conduct an inquiry on the matter.
The ABC thru Ma. Irene Ong said that they are wondering if the Senior Citizen Multi-Purpose Cooperative had received any special dispensation from the city government.
The group wanted to know if the said cooperative had applied for or had been issued any business permit by the city government.
Ong's group also questioned if the Senior Citizen Multi-Purpose Cooperative had been granted special license such as usufruct to operate a private business in a public place.
Ong said they are questioning the existence of the Senior Citizen Multi-Purpose Cooperative as they also would like to have the same privilege.
Ong said the ABC City Proper chapter is looking for a place where they could hold office.
"If the above mentioned private enterprise had been allowed to put up a permanent structure at the Plaza Libertad, we see no cogent reason why the ABC City Proper cannot be allowed to use the plaza to put up its district office, " said Ong.
