The Fullness of Life
The all-good, all-wise and Almighty God
Let us focus now on the three divine attributes or perfections of God which are inexhaustible. Constant meditation upon them brings new depth of insights which leads to total abandonment to the Divine Providence. This total abandonment to God's loving design for us is the secret to peace and serenity in life. These three attributes are the following: that God is all-good, all-wise, and almighty.
Let us, for a moment, reflect separately on these divine attributes--although in the mystery of God's simplicity these three are but one.
God is all-good. In reality there is no good apart from God. There might be some resemblance of good or counterfeit of what is good and in our lack of proper discernment we often are misled to accept as good things which are intrinsically evil. Sacred scripture tells us that, in truth, God alone is good (cf. Mark 10:18), and we cannot even have a single good thought without God. Whatever good we see in ourselves or in others are but reflections of his good God. Consider then that whatever God, who is all-good, wills for me or allows to happen in my life will ultimately be for my integral good.
God is all-wise. He knows everything; past, present, future. Nothing escapes His knowledge--not even the most secret thoughts of the human heart. He has the answer to every problem and every possible question in the whole human existence. His wisdom is such that what man could boast as wisdom is, at best, foolishness before Him. If such is the wisdom of God, I must then learn to abandon all my cares to Him even when He is leading me to paths which for me are uncertain and uncharted, for I believe that God knows what is best for me.
Finally, let us reflect upon the omnipotence of God. Look around you! Search high and low. All these--these marvelous expanse and riches of the universe--all these are created by God out of nothing. Sacred scripture testifies that nothing is impossible with God. This is not an exaggeration; neither is it a mere human speculation. It is a divinely revealed truth.
When the Archangel Gabriel announced the good news of Incarnation to the Blessed Virgin Mary, the holy angel left her this re-assuring yet mysterious statement: "For with God nothing will be impossible" (Luke 1:37).
Our Lord Jesus reaffirmed this truth during His encounter with the rich young man who was hesitant in selling his possession in order to give the proceeds to the poor as a precondition in following Christ along the way of perfect discipleship. The young man turned away sad because he had great possession, thereupon Our Lord looked around and said, "How hard it will be for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God" (Mark 10:25). When the disciples expressed astonishment and exclaimed, "Who, then, can be saved?" Our Lord responded, "With men it is impossible, but not with God; for all things are possible with God" (Mark 10:26-27).
