PIA slates basic journalism seminar workshops
The Philippine Information Agency Area Management Office 6 (PIA-AMO 6) is all set for the holding of the series of Basic Journalism seminar-workshops for incoming college and high school paper writers and their advisers who have not attended any PIA-sponsored writing seminars.
The first of the series will be on July 24-26, 2006, at the Fine Rock Hotel in Iloilo City, for elementary and high school levels for the city of Iloilo.
The seminar-workshops are conducted for three-days, live out, with a registration fee of P1,300 per participants, to include lunch and snacks, and handouts.
The PIA has been conducting journalism workshops for school paper writers for more than 30 years already. PIA Asst. Director-General for the Visayas Janet Mesa said that the agency recognizes the role of student writers as opinion molders, strong and influential sources of information in the campus.
The series following that of Iloilo City will be held on these dates: July 31-August 2, 2006, for Colleges and universities all over the region; August 7-9, 2006, for Iloilo province, Guimaras and Antique (high school level); August 14-16, 2006, for Aklan and Capiz (high school), and August 29-31, for Negros Occidental and Bacolod City high schools. The venue for Iloilo trainings is the Iloilo Grand Hotel, while that for Negros will be determined later.
The modules include Campus journalism from perspective of peace and development; data gathering for journalistic writing; interviewing techniques cum personality development; preparing the campus paper: the news page, the opinion page, the feature or literary page, sports page, and page design both for tabloid and magazine. Photojournalism and editorial cartooning will also be included, as well as writing in Filipino and copy editing.
Resource persons will come from the academe, the media practitioners and seasoned writers from Iloilo and Bacolod.
