DILG kicks off 2006 Outstanding Tanod Search
Nine Barangay Tanod groups and five Tanod individuals have qualified as finalists in the 2006 Search for Outstanding Tanod in Western Visayas conducted by the Department of the Interior and Local Government Region VI.
The Regional Search Committee (RSC), headed by DILG Regional Director Evelyn A. Trompeta, has named the following group finalists: Brgy. Poblacion, Patnongon; Brgy. Semirara, Caluya; and Brgy. Dionela, Pandan all in the province of Antique; Brgy. Ilaya, Ivisan, Capiz; Brgy. Concordia, Sibunag, Guimaras; Brgy. Aganan, Pavia, Iloilo; Brgy. Robles, La Castellana, Negros Occidental; Barangay 1, Bacolod City; and Brgy. MV Hechanova, Iloilo City.
Barangay MV Hechanova copped the championship in last year's search, followed by Barangay Robles; while Barangay Ilaya was also a regional finalist.
The RSC is composed of representatives from other DILG agencies (National Police Commission, Bureau of Fire Protection, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, the Philippine National Police, and the Philippine Public Safety College Regional Training School 6). Each agency also contributed for the prizes as a joint project of the DILG Regional Management Coordinating Committee.
Meanwhile, the Rotary Club of Iloilo has also lent support to the search.
"From the enthusiastic response of our local governments in the region in last year's undertaking, we were inspired to conduct another search for outstanding Barangay Tanod," Trompeta explained.
"We only have minimal budget for the search, and we are thankful to everyone concerned who cooperate and support this project, which aims to honor local heroes like the Barangay Tanod, who unselfishly serve their community through the preservation of peace and order and public safety," she added.
The awarding ceremonies shall be on September 7, 2006, at Robinsons Mall, Iloilo City, as highlight of the National Crime Prevention week. Group and individual category winners shall receive cash prizes and plaques.
