'Uligmat Antiqueño' battlecry for vigilance and discipline in times of disaster
San Jose, Antique -- The Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council (PDCC) has slated a two-day culmination activities in the observance of July as Disaster Consciousness Month, with the theme "Itaguyod Ang Kaunlaran Ng Bayan - Kalamidad Ay Paghandaan", bared Broderick Train, Provincial Disaster Executive Officer and Deputized Civil Defense Coordinator.
To drive home the message on the need to be vigilant, the PDCC has chosen as its battlecry "Uligmat Antiqueño" to instill in the minds and hearts of every citizenry the value of vigilance on any impending disasters. Uligmat is a kinaray-a term for vigilance which could best describe the PDCC's state of readiness in responding to or managing disaster-related undertakings.
Highlighting the celebration on July 28, 2006 is the launching of the "Rescue-Ree", which according to Train underscores the urgent need to determine the level of skills and capabilities of rescue groups operating in the province.
The PDCC Executive Officer pointed out that the event could be a venue for the rescue groups to hone their skills, enhance fellowship and camaraderie among themselves. In nurturing the values of discipline and wholesome attitude like unity of action will boost the morale of rescue groups in managing disasters.
The "Rescue-Ree' launching ceremony will be participated in by the chiefs of offices and non-government organization that compose the PDCC. Exercise on knot-tying, first aid, rappelling technique, fire fighting and fun games will be part of the day's attraction.
Other activities like training on water safety and swimming at San Jose Port area will be done July 29.
Capping the event is the Rescue-Forum, during which topics on Incident Command System, the Principle of Command, Control and Coordination on every response operation, particularly during mass casualty incident will be discussed.
Train expressed optimism that through the various training exercises, the rescue groups will be more capable in performing their tasks. Vigilance is of essence, especially during the typhoon-prone months where disasters such as flashfloods and landslides likely occur.
Uligmat Antiqueño - is the PDCC's motto to save lives and properties to propel the nation to progress, Train added.
