The Regional Disaster Coordinating Council (RDCC) 6 on Tuesday honored groups and individuals who have helped in the successful implementation of disaster programs in their areas through the Regional Gawad Kalasag 2006 Awards.
The awarding ceremony held at the Iloilo Grand Hotel was led by Office of Civil Defense (OCD) regional director Rosario Cabrera who is also the vice chair of RDCC 6.
While citing the regional awardees, Cabrera also made mention of the fete achieved by RDCC when it garnered eleven out of twenty-two awards in the national level.
The regional awardees are as follow: Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council -- 1) Province of Antique, 2) Province of Guimaras;
City Disaster Coordinating Council -- 1) Component City Category: Bago City, Negros Occidental, 2) Highly Urbanized City Category: Iloilo City;
Municipal Disaster Coordinating Council -- 1) 1st to 2nd Class Category: San Jose, Antique and Sibalom, Antique; 2) 3rd to 4th Class Category: Dumangas, Iloilo, Pontevedra, Negros Occidental, and Pontevedra, Capiz;3) 5th to 6th Class Category: San Enrique, Negros Occidental and Sibunag, Guimaras;
Barangay Disaster Coordinating Council -- Rural Barangay Category: Brgy. Pis-anan, Sibalom, Antique and Brgy. Hoskyn, Jordan, Guimaras.
Also honored are the auxiliary/volunteer groups and government emergency responders, namely, Amity Volunteer Fire Brigade, Negros Occidental; Dumangas Rescue Emergency Action Movement (DREAM), Dumangas, Iloilo; Black Panther Volunteer Group, Iloilo; Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary (PCGA) 606th, Antique; PCGA 601st, Iloilo City; Pontevedra Emergency Rescue Unit (PERU), Pontevedra, Negros Occidental; Royal Eagles Rescue Volunteer Brigade, Inc., Iloilo City; Society of Enthusiastic Aklanons for Life-Saving (SEALS), Aklan; Western Visayas College of Science and Technology (WVCST) Special Action and Rescue Group, Iloilo City; and 5052nd SAR Auxiliary Squadron Antique Chapter, Inc.
