W. Visayas women's groups get Danish aid
Nine women's organizations in Western Visayas received a total of P250,000 in livelihood loans from the Danish International Development Agency under the project, "Empowering Women in the Informal Sectors in the Philippines, Phase 2."
The loans were released during a program held at the Iloilo Grand Hotel in Iloilo City last Friday. In Negros Occidental, those who availed of the assistance are the Federation of Babae Negros (Kabankalan City), P30,000, general merchandise; Pasalan Women's Association, P30,000, fish vending;
Southern Negros Progressive Women Org. Inc. (Cauayan), P20,000, sari-sari store; and Camansi Women's Association (Kabankalan City), P25,000, fruits and vegetables buy and sell.
Those from Antique are the Atiotes Upland Farmers Association Women's Collective (Tobias Fornier), P30,000, fruits and vegetables buy and sell; Quezon Upland Farmers Association, P25,000, sari-sari store and rice retailing; and Portillo Upland Farmers (Tobias Fornier), P30,000, fruits and vegetables buy and sell.
The groups from Iloilo are Bingawan MPCI Women's Collective, P30,000, fruits and vegetables buy and sell; and Samahan ng mga Nagkakaisang Kababaihan ng Bolantera sa San Joaquin P30,000, fruits and vegetables buy and sell.
The second phase of the project, aimed to improve the situation of women in general and women in the informal sectors, will be implemented by Democratic Socialist Women the Philippines and the Support Service Institute for Women Inc. for two-and-a-half years in cooperation with the United Federation of Danish Workers and Confederation of Trade Unions in Denmark.
The livelihood support through credit component is a direct service in response to the demand for access to credit facilities for poor women.
In the Visayas, the project covers Iloilo City and Province, Guimaras, Antique, Negros Occidental and Siquijor.
