4,179 cops in WV without homes
Calderon
Over 4,000 police personnel in Western Visayas are homeless.
With this, Philippine National Police chief, Director General Oscar Calderon has ordered the housing board of the Police Regional Office (PRO) 6 to fast track the housing program for the homeless policemen.
"Thus, I urge the Regional Housing Board... to fast track the development of the forty-thousand square meter lot intended for the Philippine National Police housing project," Calderon said in his speech during Wednesday's assumption of Chief Superintendent Geary Barias to the PRO 6.
Calderon expressed that the PNP housing program will be the hallmark of his administration.
"We will work to provide decent homes for the 4,179 homeless police personnel in this region. This we shall do to restore decency, dignity and self-respect in every law enforcer's uniform which prove vital in minimizing, if not stamping out misfits in uniform," he said.
Senior Supt. Edwin Pfleider, head of the regional housing board, said that they have already identified areas in Capiz, Aklan, Iloilo and Negros Occidental that will be developed into housing sites for police personnel.
He said that the intended sites should be nearest to the provincial headquarters as much as possible.
He assured of available funds for the project. Likewise, the pricing scheme for the acquisition of the house and lots have been designed as to be within reach of police personnel whom they have identified to be homeless.
