Office of the President to release P1M for North Baluarte fire victims
The 46 families in Brgy. North Baluarte who lost their homes in a huge fire recently will soon receive additional help as the Office of the President is set to release P1 million as aid for them.
The Sangguniang Panlungsod in last Wednesday's regular session, approved a resolution granting authority to Mayor Jerry Treñas to enter into a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the Office of the President for the acquisition of construction materials for the housing units of 46 families.
The aid is specifically allocated for the procurement of construction materials. The amount was taken from the President's Social Fund. In the MOA, only P500,000 or 50 percent of the aid will be released first for the purchase of materials.
The remaining amount or the second trance of the aid which amounted to P500,000 will only be released after the proper accounting and inspection of the Office of the President. This is to make sure the fund is disbursed properly and in accordance with what has been agreed in the MOA.
The P1 million President's Social Fund added to the number of aid extended to the fire victims. The city government has already released P100,000. The amount was used to buy bamboos for the fire victims.
Other than the government's help, a Chinese organization and the St. Anne Parish have also donated galvanized iron sheets and bamboos to the victims.
Several months ago, reports on the alleged P1 million contribution of Manny Pacquiao stirred the entire community. The report, however, was dismissed by the barangay captain.
