Creation of local economic enterprise will not displace employees
Employees of the city government will not be displaced with the creation of a local economic enterprise.
This was assured by Mayor Jerry Treñas amid the plan to integrate three generating departments.
Treñas explained that the plan will prove the viability and income generating capabilities of markets, slaughterhouse and the Lapaz Maternity Clinic. He said they will be put in one department to rationalize their existence.
The mayor added that the plan for the creation of the local enterprise is currently being studied by City Administrator Melchor Tan and CTO chief Katherine Tingson.
His reaction was relative to reports that the plan for the creation of a local economic enterprise was meant to address the problem affecting the income generating capacity of the three offices particularly the markets. The market operations in the city are allegedly losing.
Treñas said they want a straightforward operation of the three departments. These employees are working in the same office but with different heads of office. It is not easy to coordinate and same time order the employees on what they should do.
He cited as example the street sweepers assigned in the different markets. They are under the supervision of the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) but the entire market operation and supervision should be placed under the City Treasurer's Office (CTO).
The mayor added that the electricians assigned in the markets are not under the supervision of CTO but with the City Engineer's Office. These loose ends should be tightened and be put in proper order.
With the proposed integration, all the income collected by the three generating departments will still go directly to the general fund. In this way, they (employees) can sustain and look for funds for their salaries, said Treñas.
