Res Gestae
Morale booster
Last Saturday (Sept. 9) was an experience so peculiar for police personnel at Camp Delgado. Though it was meant for the launching of the rank inspection to be held at least once a month, the day was also fun-filled.
The rank inspection is another brainchild of Police Chief Superintendent geary Barias which is primarily aimed not only at keeping his men to be accounted for but also for them to re-learn the "basics" of police profession.
During the rank formation, the team of inspectors noted the details from the wearing of proper uniform to personnel's knowledge on general information. Well, it can't be denied that many of our police take for granted the significance of maintaining a good physical appearance. Faded uniform, unclean accruements, worn out shoes, rusted buckles, unshaved mustache and long hair indubitably affects people's perception of our police. It has to be noted that PCSupt Barias is putting emphasis on wearing of proper uniform and cited the security guards of big malls, such as SM Supermart and Robinson's Place, as models in his campaign. In fact, several police officers have already been meted with a day of suspension for negligently wearing the non-prescribed police uniform while on their tour of duty.
To gather the personnel on a weekend is not easy. But, PCSupt Barias has a peculiar way to encourage his personnel to participate in the said activity. No threat of "written explanation". Instead, he promised that cash and goods incentives were at stake after the inspection.
True to his promise, last Saturday PCSupt Barias raffled six (6) sacks of rice in which there were twelve (12) winners of a half sack each. He also gave an additional of P100 for the winners who rendered a song number and another P500, P300, and P200, respectively, for the top three best performers. The mechanics was like that of talent search in which the winners were determined by the audience, however, not through a text vote but loudness of clapping. The songs of Eddie Perigrina and Frank Sinatra's "My Way" were on the top list but children's songs like "Bahay Kubo" and "I have two hands" also "captivated" the audience.
Almost everyone went home winners for there were also group prizes for best marching platoons of P3,000, P2,000 and P1,000, respectively.
The activity which lasted for three (3) hours was conducted in a spirit of fun, but surely it has boosted the morale of all the personnel and encouraged them to participate and support the programs of PRO 6's Top Cop!
Congratulations to the winners! Kudos PCSupt Barias!
