Police hunt killers of farmer in Calinog shooting
At least two male suspects are now subject of intense police manhunt operation following Wednesday evening's shooting incident in Calinog, Iloilo.
The victim, 41 year-old Antonio Cercado was shot at close range within minutes upon reaching the family home in Barangay Malaginabot. He fell bloodied and died on the spot as his body was riddled with bullets. At least nine fatal gunshot wounds concentrated on his body were discovered thereafter as responding police scoured the area for the victim's assailants.
A father of five, The News Today (TNT) gathered that it was only days back when the farmer-victim got the ire of neighbors when he fired warning shots to pacify a brawl near his house. The matter was brought and settled in the barangay.
On the night of the tragic shooting, Marilou, the victim's wife said in a Bombo Radyo interview that her husband left the family home at about 8:30 to go visit the barangay chapel. He came back within the hour when series of gunshots were then heard by the family. Marilou thought it was her husband who fired the shots anew and got the shock of her life when she saw him bloodied just inside their yard.
Asked on possible suspects, the victim's wife said she is at a loss as to who would want her husband dead, more so on the matter of how he was violently killed.
Police investigation continues as validation is being made on the possible motives that led to the tragic shooting. The victim was also once tagged as principal suspect on the death of an ex-army in the barangay however the case was settled amicably.
