New Lucena stude champions 2006 division pop quiz
Irish Joy Lastrilla, fourth year student of Bololacao National High School in the Municipality of New Lucena won the 2006 Division Population Quiz held last September 15, 2006 at Guimbal Gymnasium, Guimbal, Iloilo.
Mark Andrew Españo of Zarraga National High School and Gemma Lyn Pielago of New Lucena National Comprehensive High School, landed in second and third spots, respectively.
The contest aims to sustain among in-school youth and the general public awareness of an interest in population issues and matters; convey to students population and development concepts/messages, which are essential to making informed decisions on family life and responsible parenthood, poverty, adolescent sexual and reproductive health and rights, gender and development; and promote among in-school youth values supportive of population and development education.
The contest was participated in by 78 contestants from secondary schools in the Province of Iloilo. The 1st place winner at the division level will compete at the regional level Pop Quiz, which will be held on October 2006.
The first place winner in division level received P1,000 cash and medal; second place, P700 and medal; and third place, P500 and medal.
Contest judges were Ms. Reynarda F. Gaviola of Provincial Population Office, Ms. Rose Eden T. Calaor and Mr. Ruben S. Libutaque of DepEd, Division of Iloilo.
Ms. Erlinda C. Bas, Health and Values Education Supervisor of DepEd, Division of Iloilo served as contest coordinator.
The contest is open to all fourth year high school students of public and private schools as well laboratory schools of state colleges and universities nationwide.
