Completion of new abattoir faces snag anew
The completion of the city's new slaughterhouse in Brgy. Tacas, Jaro again faces delay as the services of a foreign firm was tapped to make a project design on the wastewater treatment facility.
Mayor Jerry Treñas said the P20 million modern slaughterhouse is expected to be operational next year.
He said, they sought the help of Borda, a Thailand based consultancy firm, to make a project design on the water waste treatment facility to ensure that it complies with the modern standards.
Treñas said they asked for another study after the project study which was done by the USAid for the wastewater treatment facility cost some P9 million. With the Borda consultancy firm, the wastewater treatment facility only cost some P5 million.
The bidding, however, for the construction of the wastewater treatment facility is yet to be done by the Bids and Awards Committee chaired by Atty. Edgar Gil, chief of the City Legal Office. The mayor said the bidding will be made soon.
Iloilo City is presently using its dilapidated abattoir in Brgy. Tap oc, Molo. Said slaughterhouse did not pass the standards set by the National Meat Inspection Commission (NMIC).
