Utopians strive for 3 overriding values
The Fraternal Order of Utopia has three overriding values kept for a number of years that makes them different from any fraternities in Ateneo and anywhere else in the country.
Atty. Jose Tale said the Fraternal Order of Utopia has three values which centers on excellence, sacrifice and service in its commitment to the legal profession. This make them different from any fraternities in the country.
The Fraternal Order of Utopia is also involved in nation building, service to the community and contributes solutions to the problems besetting the country, said Tale.
Tale is only one of the number of Ilonggos who joined the Fraternal Order of Utopia when they studied law in Ateneo. "We want to be more productive and be of service to the community," he said.
The Fraternal Order of Utopia held its First National Convention last November 3 to 5, 2006 at the Sarabia Manor Hotel. The convention's theme is "Utopia: Moving on to a Higher Level." There were 130 alumni and 30 resident brother Utopians from Luzon, Visayas and Mindao who attended the convention.
The Fraternal Order of Utopia is a law school-based fraternity established in 1964 in the Ateneo de Manila University, School of Law. Its membership is composed of practicing lawyers, businessmen, politicians, jurists, military, police officers and law students all over the country.
Undersecretary Ricardo Blancaflor, also a Utopian said, when they entered Ateneo the Fraternal Order of Utopia is a well-respected fraternity in the said institution. Coming from a province, they searched for a better and respected fraternity.
Mayor Jerry Treñas said most of the Utopians are in the dean's list. He recalled that the grades of students are published in Ateneo. The Utopians are also active in extra curricular activities. A member of the fraternity served as editor-in-chief for eleven years.
He said Utopia is a "tradition of excellence and strong conscience." Most of those who top the BAR exams are members of Utopia. The city served as host to the fraternity's first national convention.
